LOOK, LIKE, SCROLL, SHARE AND BE MERRY.
This year I set the intention to be proactive in my business. Instead of purely reacting and working on the jobs that came to me. I wanted to learn new skills to benefit my clients, to extend the services I offer and fill gaps in my knowledge. The online world of social media, posts and likes is full of potential and needed exploring.
UNKNOWN RESOURCES
Having read many articles and blogs on social media and how to engage with your audience, I discovered ASBAS (Australian Small Business Advisory Services Digital Solutions). ASBAS is a government agency providing small businesses with low cost, professional advice on a range of digital solutions to help meet their business needs and grow their digital capabilities.
Previously unknown to me, I am grateful to have become aware of this has amazing resource and have taken advantage of the low cost webinars and workshops offered. Having completed my Digital Business Needs Analysis, I focused on my areas of need – website, digital marketing, social media and online security.

LOW COST WORKSHOPS AND WEBINARS
I benefited from one-on-one mentorships with marketing consultant, Michelle Fagar from BrandiT. Workshops which were expertly run by Michelle, included, SEO & Blogging and Digital Marketing 101. The world of Search Engine Optimisation is extensive and complicated, but it is beneficial to be aware of the simple means to help the user experience while they are on your website.
The webinar, Let’s Get Digital – Secure your WordPress Website presented by Ross Minney from DevHouse was an eye-opener as I had recently launched my new website. My new website was created on WordPress, I was alarmed to discover I was doing many of the don’ts highlighted in the session. The knowledge and awareness gained allowed me to take preventative action on my site to ensure greater security.

SETTING GOALS
Of major benefit was the Social It Yourself workshop created and presented by Strategic Social Profiles. The workshop focused on the first two steps of the program – Setting Goals and Identifying & Understanding Your Target Audience. This was one of the most revealing and beneficial things I have undertaken for my business. As I am busy with work I rarely take time to think these issues. I have always found it difficult to carve out time to think about the big picture for work. Knowing this fundamental information has helped me to understand what services to offer, areas to upskill, specialist services to partner with in order to create successful outcomes.
GOING FORWARDS
So, this Christmas, as I look, like, scroll and share I am grateful for all the knowledge, information and advice I have been exposed to. I have awareness of the areas in which I will take my business and an intention to be creative with my design skills and with my business. Merry Christmas.
